Leadership Candidates should be aware that their participation in this program does not guarantee that they will ultimately be hired by the club. Throughout their tenure, candidates will work under the guidance of an experienced coach, receiving active mentorship and feedback designed to cultivate an athlete-centred coaching philosophy.
Most of our Leadership volunteers help with Special Olympics, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Candidates buddy up to paddle with Special Olympians for practices and races. What makes volunteering for Special O. so rewarding are the relationships Special O. paddlers and their buddies form over the course of the season.
Before working on behalf of the club, all PICC volunteers and staff must first take their CPR/First Aid training (free with the club), obtain their Transport Canada Boating License and police check (if over 18), do a minimum of 3hrs of practical training on a safety boat in May/June (additional practice as needed), as well as attend an orientation session of about 3 hrs in June.
To apply, applicants must submit a short paragraph to petriecanoe@gmail.com. , describing why they would like to volunteer with PICC, and promise to put in a minimum of 15 hours volunteering with us if they are accepted into the program.
* We are happy to CC parents on any correspondence, but all communication for training, scheduling, etc. will be directly between the club and the Leadership Candidate.
