Special Olympics Paddling Program

Watch the video from our partner Rideau Canoe Club’s Paddle All Program, which was later renamed Special Olympic Program. The video demonstrates a little bit more about how Special Olympic Program works.

Special Olympics Paddling

Petrie Island Canoe Club offers Special Olympics Paddling, a program aimed at promoting individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate in the sport of Canoe Kayak. It provides opportunities for both recreational and competitive paddling. Race opportunities are available at the local, divisional, provincial, and national levels. Many successful programs are already in place across Canada. The positive impact of these programs at individual clubs propelled Canoe Kayak Canada in 2007 to begin a national initiative to support national standards in promotion, recruitment, coaching and competition. The program is a direct outgrowth of CKC’s strategy to give our member Clubs the resources to meet the paddling needs of their local communities all across Canada.

The ratio for this program is a minimum of 1:1. Each Special Olympic athlete paddles with a buddy.
