U12 Junior Development

May / June: Getting on the water in May provides a jump-start on the racing season, helping paddlers to get comfortable on the water before regattas begin!

Registration Fees: $250

Fees Included: Local regatta fees, sport affiliation memberships, and insurance

Not Included: Spring Training Camps, Development Camps, Provincial/National Team Trials, National championship race fees, racing singlet

Optional: Racing singlet $65

Minimum Swimming Standards: Participants MUST pass the “Swim to Survive” test.

U14 & U15+ High Performance

March / April: Attending the provincial Florida Training Camp is an option for athletes 14+ who will compete at all four O-Cups, and/or who have permission from Petrie Island Canoe Club’s Head Coach. Training camp is very physically demanding, so a good rule of thumb is that athletes considering applying should be consistently training at least 5X/week. Athletes returning from camp will start practicing on the water again as soon as possible (April / May).

Alternatively, there may also be an opportunity to attend CKO Sprint’s Welland Development camp in late April, early May. Otherwise, it’s business as usual. Winter training wraps up as soon as we can get on the water. May / June: Getting on the water early helps athletes get ready for provincial & national team trials!

LTAD Level: Learn to Compete &/or Training to Compete

U14 athletes who have reached the Learn to Compete stage may be invited to train with the High-Performance group at select practices. U14 and U15+ practices may be combined during Spring, Winter, and/or Fall sessions. Each athlete’s developmental stage will be determined by their coach.
